Lord Bless My Will

How many times do we find ourselves asking God to bless our will? We have plans, dreams, and desires, and we come before Him, telling Him how things should be done. But let’s be honest—how often do these plans fail, doors close, and frustration sets in? Could it be that we are making our journey more difficult by choosing our own way instead of seeking God’s?

Jesus taught us how to pray in Matthew 6:9-10:

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’”

Here lies the problem—we often move forward with our own agenda without first seeking God’s will. Instead of aligning with His perfect plan, we strive in our own strength, working twice as hard to accomplish goals that may not be meant for us in the first place. Our first goal should be to seek God because He will make sure all our needs are provided for. But God reassures us not to worry, for He provides for all our needs. Matthew 6:25-34 reminds us:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26)

Now, let’s be real; this sounds simple, but in the middle of life’s storms, it can be difficult to remember. I sometimes sit back and reflect on all the Lord has done for me and wonder why I struggle with this. Still, when we (that me and everyone else) truly grasp this truth, how much more peace will we have? God’s plans for us are good, as He promises in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Even before we were formed, He knew us (Jeremiah 1:5). Though we may think life would be easier if we could determine our own paths, the good news is that there is a greater plan—a better way. And we serve a gracious God who lovingly corrects us and gives us clear direction.

A Prayer of Surrender:

Lord, forgive me when I forget to take my hands off the wheel and allow You to guide me. I surrender all that I am to You and Your will. Be the light unto my path and let Your Word be the lamp unto my feet. I trust in Your perfect plan for my life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
